Turin Film Festival, M5s Against Base: “Assignment to the Wife, Questioning to Giuli”

The 5 Star Movement raises a case of “cronyism” in the Culture Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, which would concern the director of the Turin Film Festival, Giulio Base , and his wife Tiziana Rocca . The one who raises the issue is MP Gaetano Amato , who states: "Not a day goes by without a new soap opera episode emerging from the Ministry of Culture - gossip, internal feuds, plot twists worthy of a B-movie - while cinema and culture remain hostage to current rivalries. On the parallel set of film festivals, the script is the same: armchairs, conflicts of interest and a lot, a lot of homely air".

Amato then gets to the heart of the matter: "A new chapter of cronyism has just begun: the appointment of Tiziana Rocca - already "multi-festival director" (Taormina, Filming Italy Sardinia, Filming Italy Los Angeles) - as a consultant for the selection of guests of the Turin film festival, led by, look at that, her husband Giulio Base. The same one who has exorbitantly increased the costs of the festival and who is said to have increased his salary by almost 20,000 euros. We will present a parliamentary question to Alessandro Giuli on all this".

Amato continues: "And while the premiere of "Albatross" is being staged about a right-wing militant signed (again, look at that) Giulio Base, greeted by a host of ministers and parliamentarians of FdI, the message is clear: for the right in power, culture is a party dependency, the claque is family and skills count less than the membership card of Fratelli d'Italia or friendship with Arianna Meloni. The moral? While the Mic postpones key appointments in museums, argues about Cinecittà, the Strega Prize and theater seats, Giorgia Meloni forces the country to watch a B-series film paid for by taxpayers while their friends and relatives continue to pocket money".
